Experience Baraka
Baraka by Ron Fricke - 104 Minutes

This movie makes one feel insignificant and godlike at once. You watch the world from god’s vantage point and see your own small place in the wide world.
This movie has no explicit plot, no knowable characters, no spoken narration. It is a vivid canvas of moving images shot on 6 continents in 24 different countries, all to music. If it is the purpose of art to reflect life - THIS IS ART.
The images show nature and humanity and the clashes between and among them. From thunderstorms to Auschwitz, Baraka takes you, the invisible observer, there to watch.
This movie, shot on 70MM film is truly beautiful. Not only does it depict some of the most breathtaking places on earth, but does so with style. Especially interesting is the use of time-lapse photography. Great expanses of time are shrunken down into fractions of a minute while wide camera pans take place simultaneously. This effect, when used on the nighttime sky, gives one the feeling that earth is his own personal spacecraft.
The original movie critic duo, Siskel and Ebert, gave this two thumbs up. I agree. No need for popcorn. Take your bathroom break beforehand. Dim the lights and crank the surround. You will be mesmerized.
