Is This America?
Hard to believe, in this day and age, that we are having separate black and white high school proms. I remember thinking, when I was in high school, that integration was a done deal. I even thought racism was on its last legs. Then I went to the University of Michigan and saw separate dorm lounges for black students. I also saw black students stand up in class and claim that black people were incapable of being racist. I knew we had a long way to go. Now, in 2004, looks like Dr. King’s dream is still far away.

I knew about the segragated proms already, which made me sick - but I did not know about the separate lounge at U of M. Are you joking me? I had to go to the site to believe it. It just makes me soo ANGRY. How could the residence halls support AND fund something so segregational. For a school with such high academic standards, their decisions are not following suite. History repeats itself all the time, all over the world. When will we learn to stop the cycle?
