Happy Birthday U.S.A

Sister and I
It is quite difficult to find a better place to be on the fourth of July than Boston, MA. Imagine how it feels to walk past the graves of Samual Adams, John Hancock and Paul Revere on your way to the Esplanade for the fireworks and the annual Boston Pops concert at the Hatch Shell. This year, the weather was spectacular with 10 mile visibility and nary a cloud in the sky. My friends and I set up camp in the dwindling daylight hours at the Community Boating dock for some music, BBQ and a little respite from the throngs (450K) outside the gates.

Around 8:30pm, 5 F- 15 fighters flew low in formation over the Esplanade to kick off the concert. Of course, the signature 1812 Overture was my favorite with crescendos accented with real cannon fire from the National Guard. Next came some fun tunes by special guest David Lee Roth. The night’s finale was 20 minutes of fantastic fireworks synchonized to music. Especially well timed were the colors that went with Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”.

And it’s always good to have family around. Check out my sister and me. ————>
