Can I Buy You a Drink?
In keeping with the dykstranet tradition of bringing you the finest gift ideas, here is the story of the $10,000 dollar martini. The story first ran on December 2nd… a PR coup for the “historic Algonquin hotel”… it took a mere 5 days before one was sold. Last night, with Stevie Nicks’ “Leather and Lace” playing in the background, Joe Imperato proposed to Melissa Beck, his girlfriend of 9 months with the arrival of this “Martini on the Rock”.
My observations:
- The drink requires 3 days advanced notice.
- As actually purchased, it cost $13,000 because the diamond was pre-purchased.
- The drink was actually ordered by the groom. The bride-to-be ordered wine.
- When it arrived, he had to fish it out with a cocktail sword. Is that romantic?
- Woudn’t any restaurant or bar plop a ring in your drink if you asked them?
