Life in the Big City
Those who know me know that I complain about the local television news. Basically, it’s crap. Unless you want to hear about some impending snow storm, the size of the pot holes in some neighborhood, or what J.Lo is going to wear to the Oscars, you’re out of luck. Why not report on the fact that a bank was robbed right in my neighborhood.
On Saturday, February 5 at 9:28 AM, District Four officers responded to the Citizens Bank at 1355 Washington Street for a robbery. They spoke with a teller (especially appropriate title in this case) who said a man had walked up to her window and handed her a note which said, “I want all the money. 50-100-20. No dye packs please.”
Of course the reason is that local news only gets a half hour, and must entertain (not necessarily inform) the lowest common denominator viewer. It’s really a commentary on the state of our society and what it likes as opposed to a commentary on the editorial esthetic of, say, channel 7.
