Banff Mountain Film Festival

Last night I trekked down to Glastonbury, CT to see the Banff Mountain Film Festival
Although there were a lot more commercials this year, it was still a great show. Most impressive was a mountain bike movie that hoisted remote control cameras high over the dewey forest floor, and followed the bikers for tens of meters along their way. It was spectacular. In a different segment of the same movie, one can see a ‘trials’ biker ripping it up on the streets of Portland, Oregon. He actually rides his bike on a two inch diameter railing, part of which is connected with a mere chain that he also deftly traverses. You won’t believe your eyes.
Check out the schedule, and go see it when it comes to your town.

Other movies included:

  • An adventure ski movie - You’ve seen one, you’ve seen ‘em all
  • A French Cartoon - Not sure why this was included… although the kids in the audience seemed to like it
  • A movie about a man who walks 2500 Kilometers across Australia - Why? A little boring. Although I was moved at least once
  • A movie about rock climbing in Mallorca
  • A not-so-funny funny movie about the singles scene in Whistler
  • A movie about scouting rapids in far northeastern Russia - Amusing, although they never did find the rapids.
  • A film of the intentional triggering of avalanches in Colorado - some powerful footage
