And Now for Something Completely Different
You’re not going to experience culture shock the next time you visit London, but the little differences are fun to notice.
- Things are pretty expensive here. Currently, a pound is worth more than two dollars. (Yet a Starbucks is still £1.65)
- Their pet name for money is ‘Quid’. Like we might say ‘ bucks’. (My hotel would have cost 140 quid)
- The little iconic men that signal that one can walk at a cross walk are green… not white. Also, they appear to be actually walking. That makes sense.
- The people are polite. On every escalator, people stand to the right, and let those in a hurry pass by on the left. I’m told tourists are quickly corrected if they don’t follow this convention.
- Speaking of politeness, I heard a very nice announcement at the airport apoligizing for the delays at the baggage claim. They even offered the explanation that they were short handed.
- A t-shirt of medium size is actually of medium size… unlike the states. Here in London, make it a large for me.
- There are quite a few differences in the language.
Spent yesterday evening in central London. Had a great meal at Wagamama

Off to Manchester tomorrow.

Gary, Be Sure to try the HOBNOB cookies there in London. They can be found in any local grocery store. They are fabulous and high in calories.
Enjoy.

So you want me to come home looking like Bridget Jones? I didn’t get to the cookies, but I did enjoy a traditional English Breakfast or three. MMMMM. Beans, Bangers (Sausages), Bacon, Eggs, Toast. I think I popped a button mate!
