It wasn’t cold enough in London…
This evening I made the trip from London to Oslo. Interestingly, the flight was going to cost about 800 dollars (can’t find the dollar sign on this Norwegian keyboard, although, hmmm, there is one of these ‘Å’ and one of these ‘æ’. ). The flight ended up costing about 45 pounds (90 bucks) because I was able to book on Ryanair. Now this is something my corporate travel agent was not aware of… and I had to book it myself… but what a deal. According to people I’ve talked to, the likes of Ryanair and EasyJets are ’stealing’ the European market. They have flights to almost every major European city… on the cheap. In fact, Ryanair’s tag line is ‘the cheap fares airline’. Anyway, they do things a little differently in order to get their prices so low. For example, they charge extra for big, heavy baggage. I was over, so I had to pay an extra 18 pounds. Then, they sold things in the aisles of the plane, from duty free cologne to scratch lottery tickets with the stewardess describing items over the PA. Last but not least, they advertised for their preferred ‘car hire’ agency: Avis… explaining where to find the booth inside the terminal.
Oh… and I almost forgot, the Oslo airport (Oslo Torp) they fly into is about 1.5 hours from Oslo proper. Oops. Guess who is getting up way too early tomorrow to make the trip.
