Saw Sideways tonight with sis. Notable was the price: $10.25… and the number of commercials: 7. It seems the prices have gone up along with the number of commercials. What’s coming down?… the quality of the pictures?

Well, actually this movie was OK. I like dialogue/character driven movies and this is one. The plot revolves around two buddies, one an actor, Jack, the other an aspiring writer, Miles, getting away together for a week in wine country, California before Jack’s wedding. It deals with man issues like fear of marriage, and people issues, like divorce, and life issues like feelings of self-doubt. So if you like wine, are thinking about getting married, have had a divorce, or are, at times insecure… this is the movie for you. It always bugs me when I don’t like the protagonist in a movie and there was a measure of that in this film. In this case, our hero (Miles)… or at least the guy we are supposed to identify with, is not honest. So when these bad things happen to him I have more trouble summoning up some empathy. I might have felt for the character more if he were suffering while fighting the good fight. Instead he’s stealing from his mother and lying about being a published writer. How do you cry for this guy?
Minus the heavy analysis, there were some great segments in this movie that shocked and amused. Also, Sandra Oh is not hard to look at.
