Polygamist Arrested in Vegas

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

From CNN:
– The FBI says fugitive polygamist Mormon sect leader Warren Steed Jeffs has been arrested in Las Vegas, The Associated Press reports.
I wonder if he was caught because Vegas no longer allows stealth 3AM weddings.
Overheard at the Vegas police station: “But they were open for my last wedding honey…”

Automated Sincerity

A disturbing trend (which deserves mention because I’ve seen it more than once now) is mis-use of the word “Thanks”. People are placing this once useful word in the signature of their outgoing email. It usually looks something like this

This Too Shall Pass

Usernames and passwords are hard to remember. Do you use the same username and password on numerous sites. I do. Ever wonder if some geek at Amazon, EBay, or Bank of America is writing a computer program to test his usernames and passwords at other popular sites to see if they work?

Based on observances and happenings over the last few years, my innocence and naivete has been lost. I’m glad I got to keep it until I was 33. Given that, I’m nonplused when I see comments like these posted on dykstraNet.

Thanks to smart software, you don’t have to see it unless I’m trying to […]

Filters

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

We’re only so smart… so we need filters to simplify stuff in the world.
The nightly news filters all the stuff coming from Iraq and elsewhere. (If you don’t know what is happening in Darfur, then your news filter may be clogged)
Radio stations filter the universe of music and give us tunes (presumably) we want […]

I’ll see you at the game. (or at the bar if we don’t get in)
Out of town? I’ll snap some real-time photos.
UPDATE: Detroit wins 3 to 2

Do You See What I’m Saying?

Given that blogs are meant to be a form of self expression, the following statistics are pretty depressing.

76% of you lemmings are using Internet Explorer

(depressing blog stats aside… these percentages are fairly typical of most web traffic from what I’ve read)
If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer then you probably don’t see what is […]
